Wood firing the pots.

We fire our kiln with wood so that the ash that drifts through the chamber fluxes and leaves a glaze of its own on pieces left bare. A nice toasty brown sheen which is called fly ash or we say WoodAsh. This way of firing makes the pieces even more individual than just being hand thrown as where they are in the kiln makes the shades of ash more or less intense and each firing is slightly different as the weather affects it as does the kind of wood and different pots put in, making each piece totally unique. Some of our shapes and designs are new, others like GIO Bowls (Glazed Inside Only) the Plates, Mugs and Casserole Dishes etc are hundreds of years old and we have no intention of ending their run, although shapes evolve (hopefully we get better).
